Iqbal Chowdhury

Bangladeshi-Canadian writer-director, Member of the Directors Guild of Canada (DGC).

Iqbal Chowdhury is a Toronto-based Bangladeshi-Canadian writer-director and a member of the Directors Guild of Canada (DGC).


His debut feature film Boli earned him the Astar Emerging Director Award at the inaugural Astar Award (Bangladesh). The film also won the top New Currents Award at the 2023 Busan International Film Festival (South Korea) and was an Oscar contender in the Best International Feature Film category at the 97th Academy Awards. He holds a post-graduate degree in Film Production from Centennial College, Toronto, and was awarded a fellowship (MA) by the Department of Cinema and Media Studies at York University.

 

He leads both production and post-production with Toronto-based creative teams, delivering globally recognized, top festival-grade cinema.


Passionate about bold storytelling, cinematic craft, and cross-cultural narratives, he continues to push boundaries in international filmmaking.
