Dr Izzati is from Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. She completed her undergraduate studies at Universiti Teknologi MARA (UiTM), gaining a first class honours degree in journalism and two dean's awards. She moved to Wales in 2012 to undertake a master's degree at Cardiff University and a PhD at the same institution. For her PhD dissertation, she critically analysed Malaysia's national efforts to create 'modern' Malaysian citizens or new cultural identity. She mainly explored the issues of post-colonialism, modernity, religion and identity. Both of her MA and PhD studies were fully funded by the Malaysian government. 

From 2011 to 2012, she was a writer at Blu Inc Media. She contributed feature articles for GLAM, which is a reputable fashion and lifestyle magazine. Apart from writing, she was also actively involved in fashion photoshoots and brand events. 

At UiTM, she co-produced a magazine for the Faculty of Communication and Media Studies. She organised a series of journalism talks to encourage fellow aspiring journalists. She also carried out a media event that involved local brands, celebrities, and musicians.
