Professor Kristy Guevara-Flanagan has long been renowned in the fields of documentary and experimental film. Currently serving as Associate Dean of the School of Theater, Film, and Television at UCLA, she also holds the positions of Undergraduate Program Director and Head of the Documentary Film Discipline, alongside her professorship. With numerous prestigious academic and creative roles, she exemplifies profound influence both within academia and the industry. Her work and research have consistently delved into cutting-edge areas such as gender studies, immigration issues, visual culture, and American subcultures. Through her distinctive artistic vision and deep social engagement, she continues to push the boundaries and power of documentary imagery.

Professor Kristy Guevara-Flanagan possesses a broad and profound creative vision. Her works span from narratives of adolescent identity formation to the deep deconstruction of feminism and popular culture; from compassionate records of immigration crises and border humanitarianism to incisive critiques of gender power structures in the film industry; from cultural examinations of death imagery to intimate writings on maternal experiences, culminating in recent explorations of reproductive rights and the myth of the American cowboy. Key works such as Thirteen Years (2004), Wonder Woman! The Untold Story of the American Superhero (2007), Águilas (2015), Body Parts (2019), and her 2024 new project As Long as We Can have become landmark texts in documentary filmmaking. These works have won numerous accolades at major international film festivals and have been widely disseminated through platforms like PBS and BBC, continuously driving discourse and reflection on social issues.
In addition to outstanding creative achievements, Professor Kristy Guevara Flanagan is also committed to academic services and cultivating industry ecosystems. She has long served as a judge for important organizations such as the Sundance Documentary Foundation, the International Documentary Society, the Independent Television Service (ITVS), the California Council for the Humanities, and the Peabody Awards, supporting newcomers with a professional perspective and leading industry standards. At the same time, her creations have received funding from important institutions such as the National Endowment for the Humanities, the Independent Television Service, and the California Council for the Humanities. She actively participates in the project review work of these institutions, providing a solid support platform for academic exchange and creative development in the field of documentary films.
