Congratulations to Dr. Julian Stringer, Associate Professor of Film and Television Studies at the University of Nottingham, UK, on being elected as a Fellow of the International Institute of Film Science and Art.

The International Institute of Film Science and Art is delighted to announce that Dr. Julian Stringer, Associate Professor of Film and Television Studies at the University of Nottingham, UK, has been elected as a Fellow of the Institute!


Delving Deep into Academia, Pioneering New Frontiers in Film Culture


Dr. Julian Stringer has long focused on diverse fields. His research spans from decoding spatial narratives in the cultural geography of film and television, to exploring cross - cultural aspects of East Asian cinema (Chinese, Japanese, and Korean). He also engages in the study of the ecosystem of international film festivals, the flow of transnational film culture, the observation of the Hollywood film industry, and the mapping of world cinema. With his solid academic knowledge, he continuously broadens the dimensions of film research.

His research on the cultural politics of location film production and exploration of multiple East Asian film projects provide a brand-new perspective for understanding the deep connection between films and society as well as culture, and promote the continuous expansion of academic boundaries.Building Bridges to Promote International Film Circles ExchangeIn the field of cultural exchange, Dr. Julian Stringer is also an active promoter: - In October 2010, he organized the academic conference "Moving Images and Digital Ecological Cities" at the Shanghai World Expo, integrating film academic dialogues with urban cultural grand events; - In January 2011, he joined hands with Tsinghua University to hold an international seminar on film and television in the 3D era at the China Film Museum, gathering wisdom for the development of film and television under the wave of new technologies; - In the same year, he was deeply involved in the Korean film industry: serving as a judge for the 12th Jeonju International Film Festival, and speaking on behalf of the Asian Pacific American Caucus of the Society for Cinema and Media Studies at the first Busan Film Forum of the Busan International Film Festival, becoming an important link in the dialogue between East Asian and international film circles.


Walking Side by Side, Marching Together Toward the Distance of Film Scholarship  

As the Associate Director of the East Asian Cultural Studies Center established in March 2012, Dr. Julian Stringer has continuously contributed to deepening regional film culture research through practical actions. His election as a Fellow of the International Institute for the Science and Art of Cinema (IISAC) is a high recognition of his academic contributions and injects new momentum into the film academic community.   In the future, we look forward to joining Dr. Julian Stringer in using film as a medium to explore more cultural depths and write a new chapter in film scholarship and exchange.
