At an important moment when academia and creation are integrated in the international film and television industry, the International Institute of Film Science and Art (IIFSA) officially announces that Mr. Tan Fei, a senior Chinese film and television planner, producer, and film critic, has been elected as an IIFSA Fellow. This honor not only represents professional recognition for his more than 20 years of deep engagement in the industry, but also marks another significant breakthrough of Chinese film and television forces in the international academic field.

Twenty Years Deep in Film and Television: From Content Operator to Industry Thinker

Born in September 1974 and graduated from the Chinese Department of Sichuan University, Tan Fei, who combines humanistic heritage with business acumen, has long become a "versatile talent" that cannot be ignored in China's film and television industry. As a producer, supervisor, and planner, his name is deeply bound to many classic works: the planned film The Long River refreshes the boundaries of art films with poetic images; the supervised Rock Dog integrates music and animation for cross-cultural expression; and the TV dramas he participated in planning, such as Kangxi's Incognito Tour and Wu Long Chuang Qing Guan, have even become the collective memory of a generation.

He is not only a content operator but also an industry thinker. He has published several collections of reviews, including Atypical EntertainmentIntellectuals in the Film and Television Industry, and Arrogance and Impetuosity, analyzing the ecological landscape of the film and television industry from a sharp perspective. As the founder of Siwei Dushu (Four Flavors of Poisonous Uncles), he has established a content platform that combines professionalism and public influence, and is hailed as an "intellectual in the film and television industry" by the industry. From being a gold medal judge on Hunan Satellite TV to a director of the China Film Critics Society, he has always served as a public opinion leader, seeking balance between commercial logic and humanistic values.

Fellow Honor: Industry Dialogue from an International Perspective

The selection of Fellows by the International Institute of Film Science and Art is based on the criterion of "dual excellence in academic influence and creative practice". Mr. Tan Fei's election stems from his diversified contributions in the fields of film and television planning, industrial research, and cross-cultural communication — from promoting the artistic and commercial exploration of domestic films to constructing a public discourse system for film and television criticism through critical writing, his practice is highly consistent with the Institute's philosophy of "integrating science and art".

As the commentary states: "Mr. Tan Fei observes the industrial texture with the acumen of a creator and deconstructs film and television phenomena with the rationality of a scholar. His works combine commercial value and social visibility, providing a vivid Chinese sample for international film and television research."

From Industry Practitioner to Academic Bridge: A Continuing Mission

This election is not an endpoint but a new starting point. For Mr. Tan Fei, this honor more importantly signifies the mission of introducing China's film and television practical experience into the international academic field. As he emphasized in Tan Fei on Film and Television, "Good works must be rooted in local contexts while also possessing the ability to dialogue with the world."

At a time when globalization in the film and television industry is accelerating, Mr. Tan Fei's "dual identity"—both a content creator deeply rooted in the local scene and a thinker connecting international academic resources—may provide a new path for the international expression of Chinese film and television.

In the future, let us collectively anticipate that in his capacity as a Fellow, Mr. Tan Fei will, through cross-border dialogue between academia and creation, add more Chinese annotations to the scientific exploration of cinematic art.
